ABOUT THE ARTIST

Elise Eekhout is a visual artist working at the intersection image and text. She combines visual elements with language, fascinated by letters and their effect on us. The moment we begin to read, letters lose their physical form and meaning takes over — it is this moment of transition that she seeks to make visible in her work. Recurring themes in her work are memory, transformation, and our relationship with nature. From abstract landscapes to text-based compositions, she seeks to evoke both wonder and reflection. Her art connects the fragility of human stories with the enduring rhythms of the earth, offering viewers a space for contemplation.

ARTWORK STORY

‘River in the Early Morning’ was inspired by an early morning walk along the water, when mist was slowly rising from the riverbanks. The landscape appeared and disappeared within the haze, with fragments of trees, water and vegetation emerging as the light gradually changed. I was interested in capturing this fleeting moment rather than depicting a specific place. Through layers of paint and reflective elements, I explored how light, colour and atmosphere can alter our perception of a landscape
