ABOUT THE ARTIST

Elise Eekhout is a visual artist working at the intersection image and text. She combines visual elements with language, fascinated by letters and their effect on us. The moment we begin to read, letters lose their physical form and meaning takes over — it is this moment of transition that she seeks to make visible in her work. Recurring themes in her work are memory, transformation, and our relationship with nature. From abstract landscapes to text-based compositions, she seeks to evoke both wonder and reflection. Her art connects the fragility of human stories with the enduring rhythms of the earth, offering viewers a space for contemplation.

ARTWORK STORY

Inspired by Doggerland; the vast land that once connected Britain to continental Europe before it disappeared beneath the rising seas. Doggerland embodies both resilience and fragility. Once a fertile corridor of life, later drowned by the unstoppable sea. Layered with text in silver foil, ink, acrylic markers, and screen print. Words shimmer and fade depending on the light, just as memory and history shift between presence and absence.
