Without a Trace

He looked elderly, wasn't particularly well-groomed, but gave the impression of being content in his dilapidated house by the river. He had little contact with others. Passersby occasionally waved from the water, but he never waved back. Once a year he went into town to do some shopping, but afterward, he quickly retreated to his old familiar haunts. He was always there. Or at least nearby. And then suddenly he was gone. Gone without a trace. Unnoticed by anyone.
