“The world is … female – Kerstin Arnold’s allegory of contemporary femininity”

Her pictorial motifs are rich in iconographic references to (art) history and popular culture. The painter focuses her gaze on emancipated women in our everyday lives. In doing so, she subverts the traditional relationship between painter and model — not least through her deliberately masculine-sounding signature, {Arno.}.
Kerstin Arnold’s paintings are less portraits, as their evocative titles already suggest. Rather, with each work she constructs an entire visual world for the viewer to explore. Kerstin Arnold has an extensive exhibition record both nationally and internationally and has established herself as a significant presence in the contemporary art market. She aligns herself with the tradition of emancipated female artists who focus on the current perception of women in our society, thereby expanding art history with this new, female perspective.
