ABOUT THE ARTIST

My oil paintings are not a registration of the reality, but impressions. Non-existent landscapes, which you can encounter everywhere in the Netherlands. Starting point is the horizon, around which I create my own image; spacious and simple. Searching for the atmosphere of marshy lands, reflective water and Dutch skies. The strength of my work lies in finding simple solutions, combined with a loose brushstroke. I graduated from the Ruudt Wackers Art Academy in Amsterdam, painting & drawing. Initially I worked a lot on location, plein air in the open fields of Noord-Holland. Nowadays you can find me daily in my studio in Westknollendam, making paintings from the memory.

ARTWORK STORY

Summer vibrant colors in the wetlands. Searching for blue tones. Stella Burggraaf is a Dutch landscape painter living close to Amsterdam. She’s inspired by the dutch wetlands and coast in the north of Holland where she was born and still lives. Stella graduated at the Wackers Art Academy (Amsterdam) in 2003. Most paintings are made in her studio in Westknollendam. These paintings are not a registration of the actual landscape, but impressions of the landscape as she sees it.
