Bernhard Lang
Bernhard Lang photographs the surface of the Earth from above, working from the open doors of helicopters and small aircraft. This position allows him to capture landscapes at a distance where they flatten into structured fields. Using medium format cameras, he produces highly detailed images in which patterns and large-scale repetitions become clearly visible.
Through his ongoing Aerial Views project, Lang isolates forms shaped by human activity. What first appears as abstract composition gradually reveals traces of agriculture, industry or urban planning. This shift creates a tension between visual order and what the image represents, bringing together aesthetic clarity and environmental impact.
Born in 1970 in southern Germany, Lang trained in Munich and has worked internationally since 2000. His photographs have been widely published, including in National Geographic, The Guardian and The Washington Post. He has received major awards such as the Sony World Photography Awards and the International Photography Awards, and was nominated for the Prix Pictet. His work is held in private and corporate collections worldwide.
