ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ríc creates shambolic, layered compositions that explore the anxiety and confusion of navigating a life steeped in overstimulation and information overload while still searching for beauty and quiet moments. His art contemplates a life full of confusion and joy. Alongside his studio practice, Ríc writes about creativity, attention, failure, and the strange process of trying to make meaningful work in a distracted world.

ARTWORK STORY

I photographed this dead tree while on vacation and painted it when I returned home. I rendered the tree realistically, the outlined it in white and set it against a bright blue background. Words are scratched directly into the wet paint, while torn paper collage and small skeletal images are layered into pink and yellow patches of paint. Raw mark making meets careful rendering, balancing calm with decay.
