ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ríc creates shambolic, layered compositions that explore the anxiety and confusion of navigating a life steeped in overstimulation and information overload while still searching for beauty and quiet moments. His art contemplates a life full of confusion and joy. Alongside his studio practice, Ríc writes about creativity, attention, failure, and the strange process of trying to make meaningful work in a distracted world.

ARTWORK STORY

A mixed media painting of a sweetgum pod set against a storm of torn book pages, created after I picked up the pod on an afternoon walk and started pondering the question, "Which came first, this pod's form, or it's function?" This brought up a lot more questions than answers, resulting in an artwork with creation itself as the subject matter.
