ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sultana Savvi is a contemporary painter whose work explores the atmospheric and emotional presence of landscape. Positioned between abstraction and memory, her paintings focus on horizon, space, and color as carriers of mood and perception. Her works emerge through layered processes, resulting in quiet and open compositions that invite reflection and personal interpretation. Rather than depicting specific places, Savvi creates spaces that evoke inner experiences and states of being. Her practice is driven by an interest in transitions — between presence and distance, intimacy and vastness. Through painting, she translates these subtle shifts into fields of color and spatial atmospheres, built through layering, transparency, and the balance between density and dissolution. Born in Greece, Savvi lives and works in Zurich. She holds a Bachelor in Art Education from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and a Master’s degree from the Zurich University of Teacher Education. Her work is part of private and institutional collections.

ARTWORK STORY

Silent Horizon – Description I work with layered applications of paint to explore color, horizon, and spatial depth. Through the contrast of intense reds and violets with softer, luminous tones, I create a subtle tension between stillness and intensity. My approach draws on a reduced visual language to evoke atmosphere and open-ended perception.
