In essence, my work is about conscious and unconscious perception.
Perception in the physical world around us. Perception around my body and perception in my mind.
There is a constant exchange between all these layers that flows and stirs, blocks and reopens, led by the process of painting. The work starts completely empty, without meaning. There is no preconceived plan. During the process, many illusions come up, but are denied by overpainting them, rearranging the strokes, colors and depths. This creates several plans and images overlaying each other. In the end, the silent point is found. I create a space in which the viewer can wander and experience images built up from his/her own associations through the shapes and colors. In that sense, the image is different for everyone, because everyone has different memories.
I adore works of Donald Judd, Hilma Af Klint, Gerhard Richter, Per Kirkeby, Paula Rego, and Otobong Nkanga.
