Grégoire Bellwald is a Geneva-based artist whose practice lies within the field of geometric abstraction, in dialogue with the legacy of Concrete Art and Constructivist practices.
Drawing on his background in music and architecture, he develops a transdisciplinary approach in which visual composition is conceived as a system of relationships: rhythms, intervals, tensions and balances structure his works like a musical score. His work primarily explores ink for its capacity to generate both precision and instability.
His works are based on minimal structures and combinatorial principles that generate internal variations and shifts in perception. Through modular systems, notably in the Carré magique and M2 series, he develops open systems governed by repetition, permutation and constraint. Balancing formal rigour with indeterminacy, his practice questions the conditions under which form emerges and the ways in which it unfolds within the field of vision. It also explores the surface as an active field in which relationships between order, variation and perception are negotiated.
From 2023 to 2026, his work has been exhibited in Geneva, Berlin, Dubai, Paris, Palma de Mallorca, Zurich, Cologne, and Konstanz, as well as in New York and at the 2024 Art Basel Off programme.
