ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michaël Brack is a French painter and draftsman whose oils, inks, and charcoals evoke unsettling atmospheres of emptiness and solitude. Inspired by his own photographs, he distills scenes into minimal yet powerful images—winding passages, corridors, and stairs that open onto a universe of haunting strangeness.

ARTWORK STORY

As is often the case, I started with a photo taken in the street (in this case, a floating pool on the Seine...). I didn't have a specific idea in mind when I started, but the idea of the beach gradually came to me. Not much remains of the original photo (the perspective of the hallway and windows, and the water in the background).
