Esta obra está inspirada en unagran laguna rosa de 1.400 hectáreas situada en el Parque Natural de las Lagunas de la Mata y de Torrevieja, en España. Este fenómeno de origen natural se produce por una bacteria que libera un pigmento rosáceo en aguas con alta concentración de sal. El titulo de la obra hace referencia a una delgada capa de sal que se forma en la superficie del agua de mar de las salinas marítimas y que en esta obra de arte está representada por la zona de color blanco-rosáceo
