Frédéric Cadiou
Originally from South Finistère, Frédéric Cadiou draws inspiration from the coastal landscapes of Brittany, where light and horizon form the essential structure of the image. Through elongated lines, simplified forms and carefully balanced contrasts, he creates landscapes suspended in a quiet and timeless atmosphere.
Light plays a central role in his work. It shapes space, defines perspective and extends shadows across the surface like graphic elements. These strong linear rhythms, combined with a restrained palette, give his paintings their distinctive atmosphere, where softness, silence and light become the essential carriers of emotion.
Simplified forms, flat areas of colour and bold silhouettes give his landscapes a graphic clarity that occasionally recalls Japanese woodblock prints. Working with an economy of means, Frédéric Cadiou distils the landscape to its essential elements and creates evocative images.
Beyond the depiction of place, his works suggest landscapes shaped by memory. Familiar views take on an almost dreamlike quality, where light, atmosphere and colour evoke feelings of nostalgia. Suspended between observation and recollection, these scenes capture the lingering impression of a remembered moment.
His work has been exhibited in France and abroad, including Prague, Concarneau and Sanary-sur-Mer. Throughout his practice, landscape remains both a subject and a means of exploring light, atmosphere and memory.
