[Focus] Robert Pelles, Conjectures I., 2022
Robert Pelles, Conjectures I., 2022, acrylic on canvas, 90 × 90 × 4 cm
The surface builds through successive layers that remain visible, forming a dense network of intersecting bands. Pale pinks, greens and ochres move across darker grounds, while milky white veils partially obscure what lies beneath.
Robert Pelles, originally trained as a graphic artist, retains a strong sense of visual communication. The painting operates like a language. Colors, forms, lines and rhythms act as elements of a personal grammar through which he conveys emotional states. The work can be read at multiple scales. At times, it recalls fragments of landscape, vegetal growth or mineral textures. Elsewhere, it suggests constructed structures, grids or built environments. These shifting associations open a wide field of interpretation.
This balance relies on forms that feel immediately familiar while remaining unresolved. It allows the viewer to project their own references into the image. Within this openness lies the strength of the work, which sustains attention through continuous shifts in reading.
