In SEAmaps, Schäfer brings together her love of the sea, her collection of antique land and sea maps, and her fascination with ships, containers, and ports, blending them with her passion for travel and the thrill of "getting lost"—in unfamiliar places, past eras, and the liminal spaces between cities, countries, islands, and oceans. At the heart of her practice is collage—deconstructing, assembling, and merging elements from diverse contexts to create new perspectives, narratives, and actions.
