Ute Laum
Ute Laum develops a semi-abstract practice grounded in the visual experience of Northern Germany. The horizon operates as an organizing principle. Color becomes spatial construction. Her canvases are not depictions of specific sites but condensations of atmosphere, light and seasonal rhythm. Broad horizontal zones, layered acrylic applications and controlled gestures establish depth without linear perspective.
Born in Bonn in 1957, Ute Laum followed a non-linear path into art. After completing her Abitur in 1976, she worked for more than three decades in the medical field. In 1993 she relocated to Kritzmow near Rostock. The northern landscape became a structural reference within her work. Artistic training began in 2002 with painters including Fritz Brockmann and Jürgen Weber. Since 2010 she has worked as an independent professional artist.
Her paintings operate through chromatic tension and spatial reduction. Saturated reds against cool turquoise fields, expansive blue-orange contrasts, muted pastel compositions with diffused light. The surface records process: layering, scraping, overpainting. Representation dissolves into rhythm and balance. The image functions as a field of perception rather than a view.
Works by Ute Laum are held in private collections across Europe, North America and the United Arab Emirates.
