ABOUT THE ARTIST

Originally from the peaceful landscapes of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli embarked on an enriching academic journey that led him to the prestigious halls of ECAL (University of Art and Design Lausanne, Switzerland), a bastion of artistic excellence on a global scale. The respected tradition of impeccable typography for which Switzerland is renowned, combined with the profound influence of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalist, and refined aesthetic, has significantly guided Piccinelli's artistic journey. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zurich movement.” This era of artistic fervor was launched by figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who pioneered geometric or constructed art. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan, and Europe.

ARTWORK STORY

The passing wind can be seen as a symbol of life itself, which is fleeting and unpredictable. Just like the wind, we can have moments of lightness and freedom. It is a visual metaphor for the extraordinary freedom of the painter who, inspired by a brief moment, puts color on his canvas and transforms it. This composition on Arches paper features “writing” similar to the graffiti of the Street Art movement. The blue square is made with a mixture of ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, and titane white.
