ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michaël Brack is a French painter and draftsman whose oils, inks, and charcoals evoke unsettling atmospheres of emptiness and solitude. Inspired by his own photographs, he distills scenes into minimal yet powerful images—winding passages, corridors, and stairs that open onto a universe of haunting strangeness.

ARTWORK STORY

The starting point for this work was a photo of a building under construction that I passed by a few years ago. The composition could have been vertical, but I found it interesting to play with the empty wall to reinforce the claustrophobic feel. The camera (the “eye”...) was very much present in the real location.
