ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michaël Brack is a French painter and draftsman whose oils, inks, and charcoals evoke unsettling atmospheres of emptiness and solitude. Inspired by his own photographs, he distills scenes into minimal yet powerful images—winding passages, corridors, and stairs that open onto a universe of haunting strangeness.

ARTWORK STORY

The subject is taken from a real electrical transformer that I photographed during a walk in the Fontainebleau area. I found its appearance interesting with its large barred window. The nighttime setting and the light coming from inside were added to accentuate the strange aspect of the image. The contrast between the surrounding nature and the industrial aspect of the electrical installations has always struck me as very evocative...
