ABOUT THE ARTIST

Henri Lamy is a prominent French figurative painter who pioneered Capoeira Painting, a unique discipline blending Brazilian martial arts with live action painting. Born in Lyon in 1985, he began his career at the renowned 59 Rivoli in Paris before developing his signature drip-painting style using palette knives. In 2015, Lamy co-founded Taverne Gutenberg (now Maison Gutenberg), a massive art residency in Lyon that has supported hundreds of global artists. His work is celebrated for its textured, vibrant portraits that appear abstract up close but reveal intense human emotion from a distance. Lamy maintains a deep connection to the Philippines, where he leads philanthropic art workshops for marginalized youth. His international reach is sustained through representation by Fitz Contemporary in the USA and Maison Gutenberg in France. In the Philippines, his works are showcased by prestigious institutions including Leon Gallery, Altro Mondo, and the Pinto Art Museum. This multidisciplinary approach makes him a key figure in bridging the gap between performance and contemporary visual art.

ARTWORK STORY

Henri Lamy’s "Déjeuner sur l'herbe," exhibited at Altro Mondo in 2025, is a contemporary reimagining of Manet’s classic. Using his signature drip painting and palette knife techniques, Lamy transforms the traditional picnic scene into a textured, high-energy exploration of modern fatherhood. The work balances abstraction and figuration, reflecting his dual life between France and the Philippines.
