ABOUT THE ARTIST

Originally from the peaceful landscapes of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli embarked on an enriching academic journey that led him to the prestigious halls of ECAL (University of Art and Design Lausanne, Switzerland), a bastion of artistic excellence on a global scale. The respected tradition of impeccable typography for which Switzerland is renowned, combined with the profound influence of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalist, and refined aesthetic, has significantly guided Piccinelli's artistic journey. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zurich movement.” This era of artistic fervor was launched by figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who pioneered geometric or constructed art. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan, and Europe.

ARTWORK STORY

This work on paper establishes a dialogue with György Ligeti's piano piece “Autumn in Warsaw” (Piano Studies, Book 1, No. 6, 1985).Warsaw in autumn bears the weight of 20th-century European history. Ligeti, a Hungarian composer who survived the Holocaust, imbues his music with a deep historical consciousness without resorting to illustration. I do the same: my work suggests rather than represents, creating an atmosphere charged with unresolved tensions.
