Marco Barberio
Marco Barberio paints reality the way we experience digital life: layered, fragmented, and constantly reconstructed. The self-taught Italian artist calls his style sampled realism – images that appear strikingly realistic at first glance, then dissolve into stepped color bands that reveal intentional gaps. His urban landscapes, drawn from places he photographs while traveling, and his almost spell-like portraits balance sharp realism with conceptual reduction.
Those visible “losses” are central to his work. For Marco Barberio, they mirror the quiet erosion of information in modern life, what disappears unnoticed, but still affects how we understand reality. The result is painting that is both visually immediate and intellectually charged: seductive surfaces that pull viewers in, and layered structures that reward a longer look.
Marco Barberio is the winner of the Marchionni Prize and a finalist of the international Laguna Art Prize and Art Olympia in Tokyo. His work has been exhibited across Europe, Australia, Japan, and the United States, confirming a growing international presence.
